HISTORY
Named after famous liberator Simon Bolivar, Bolivia was a part of the vast Inca empire until it fell under Spanish occupation in the 16th century. In 1809 it declared its independence, but did not achieve it until 1825, after 16 years of war. Since then much of its history has consisted of political unrest and economic instability.
