Washington Square Park
If you are in Greenwich Village, stop by Washington Square Park. The park provides a peaceful retreat from the lights and sounds of downtown Manhattan. Its major landmarks include Washington's Arch, a large fountain in the center and many other statues. On any given day, the park is populated with people walking their dogs, relaxing under the shade, and street performers and artists trying to sell their wares. The park is also a haven for New York University students since it is surrounded by many of the University's buildings.
It is a great place to take a stroll in the city and see where many people in Greenwich Village hang out. Other park features include a children's play area and a dog park. This park has been featured in many films such as "Searching for Bobby Fischer" which used the chess playing site for shooting.
