Niceville Florida

TrekkerTime – Niceville

Niceville is in Okaloosa County, along the Gulf Coast of Florida. It began as a fishing village called Boggy, a name it shared with one of the many bayous in the area. In 1910, city leaders decided to make the area more appealing, and renamed the town Niceville.

Each October, locals and visitors celebrate Niceville’s fishing heritage at the Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival. Around 100,000 people attend the three-day festival, to enjoy seafood, arts and crafts and live music.

The city is also home to Okaloosa Walton College, which offers several two and four-year degree programs. The campus is shared with a collegiate high school and boasts a state of the art Theatre and Arts Center, which regularly hosts Broadway touring shows.

The Advertiser is the neighborhood newspaper delivered monthly, by mail, to all households in Niceville, Valparaiso and Bluewater Bay.

The city of Niceville maintains several parks for picnics and play. Outdoor enthusiasts can also kayak, canoe, bike or walk the nature trails of Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park. Camping facilities and boat ramps are also available at Rocky Bayou.
