Museum Of Modern Art New York City

The Museum of Modern Art, better known as simply MoMA, is located in Midtown Manhattan on 53rd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Arguably the most important institution of modernist art to date, MoMA hosts a number of contemporary exhibitions all year round. Its collection includes architecture, drawings, paintings, electronic media, film, prints, photography, design, sculptures, and illustrated books. MoMA also holds over 300,000 books in its library with files on more than 70,000 artists.

For those who desire a more upbeat and hip museum tour than those offered at the neighboring Metropolitan Museum of Art, a trip to the MoMA is a must. Many art critics today still consider MoMA to have the best Western modern art collection in the world. Notable pieces include:

1. The Sleeping Gypsy by Henri Rousseau

2. Love Song by Giorgio De Chirico

3. Number 31 by Jackson Pollock

4. The Dance by Henri Matisse

5. Painting by Francis Bacon

6. Campbell's Soup Cans by Andy Warhol

7. Water Lilies triptych by Claude Monet

8. Les Demoiselles d'Avignon by Pablo Picasso

Other world famous artists featured at the MoMA include Cezanne, Frida Kahlo, Umberto Boccioni, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Edward Hopper, Chuck Close, Jasper Johns, and Georgia O'Keefe.

Check out the MoMA Gift Store on your first visit. MoMA offers a wide range of design accessories (bowls, plates, chairs, rugs, lamps) that is guaranteed to add flair to your home.
