Montepulciano Italy


Montepulciano is a town in the province of Siena in southern Tuscany. It is a major producer of food and drink, and wine connoisseurs believe the regions Vino Nobile is one of the best wine's Italy has to offer. Montepulciano is also known for its honey, cheese, pork, lentils and pici pasta (a thick, chewy variant of spaghetti).


Palazzo Comunale - This palace was designed by Michelozzo in the same style as the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.

Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta - This cathedral is the Duomo of Montepulciano with houses a huge 'Assumption of the Virgin' triptych, a masterpiece from the Sienese School.

The Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Biagio - The sanctuary is located outside of the city, on the road to a neighboring village. It has a typical 16th Century Tuscan edifice, with a circular plan, large dome and two bell towers.
