Marco Island is a bit of Heaven on earth and for many years it was an annual vacation spot for our family. We would stay at the Eagles Nest Resort which was geared toward children as well as adults. The rooms are so classy, furnished to a tee and there is an outdoor patio to enjoy the view or have a lovely dinner on the veranda. Our choice to visit was always in the month of February when the weather is gorgeous but not too hot. In the evenings the establishment put on a spectacular fireworks showing. Our days were filled with enjoying the pools where there would be volleyball tournaments taken place for those interested and bingo games for the kids. The Eagles Nest also has a tremendous work out room with lots of equipment. There is an adorable gift shop, which I loved to frequent daily also.
For a change of pace we would bring the children to Tiger Beach also located on the Island. Or we would drive through Naples, north of Fort Meyers and by Sanibel Island to have lunch there. The Famous Busch Gardens is not too far to drive to and was also an adventure for the family.
Another way to experience Marco Island is by renting a house. Many of the rental houses have a screened in porch with a pool that overlooks the canals leading out to the Gulf of Mexico. Some are even pet friendly. This provides a more private relaxation spot, while still in walking or driving distance from the island's two main beaches.
