Lloret De Mar

LLoret de Mar is located about 65 miles south of the French Border into Spain.

Madrid is an extra 45 miles south. Once a small fishing port, it has a rich and exciting history that has existed for over a millenia.

Growing into a busy beach resort catering mostly to British and Europeans, the mild climate and attractive scenery make this a favored stop for many people visiting the Costa Brava.

Numerous hotels, motels, guest houses, and bed and breakfast inns offer a choice to any traveler for their own preference in lodging.

For a taste of the Mediterranean, sample the local restaurants, rich with fresh seafood and meats prepared by locals; afterwards, take a stroll along Santa Cristina Beach?, one of the typical small bays that dot the rugged Costa Brava Coast?.

For a feel of luxury on the Spanish Riviera?, why not try the Casino Lloret de Mar?, located southwest of the town center, for big gaming excitement with games of chance, buffets, and dancing. Various nightclubs in town are more popular with the younger set. Hollywood is a prime example of somewhere to see and be seen dancing the night away.

For those of you wishing for a simpler time, why not visit Saint Joan's Castle?, built in the Tenth century?? All that remains is the watch tower, that was used to defend from attacks by sea, mostly by pirates. Perched high on a hill between two beaches, it is the perfect vantage point to repel pirates and other invaders.

All through out the town and surrounding country, you will find many examples of architecture in many different styles and forms from statues to buildings, churches to mansions, and medieval to modern times--be sure to bring your camera!

For those of you who prefer "hoofing it," there are many paths and walkways along the coastline, promising abundant views of natural foliage and seascapes. Lloret de Mar is also known for its environmentally sound waters and scuba diving--a paradise in this area of the Costa Brava.

Now for something we all enjoy--shopping! Lloret de Mar has many wonderful shops and several open air markets thoughout the year, where local curios and craftsmanship can be reasonably found.

Families can find fun at the water park and reptile zoo.

The best way to see the town is on foot; however, there are city buses, taxi services, and car rentals available.
