Liberty Bell PhiladelphiaThe Liberty Bell is probably one of the first things people think of when visiting Philadelphia. The bell is as recognizable to Americans as the Star-Spangled Banner. The Liberty Bell now sits in the historic district of Philadelphia. The lawn in front of the bell used to be the site of the President's house when Philadelphia was the capital of the United States. On every Fourth of July, there is special ceremony at the Bell's location. Children who are descendants of Declaration of Independence signers tap the liberty bell 13 times in honor of the 13 original colonies. Bells across the nation also ring 13 times.
