Hilo Hawaii

Hilo has some of Hawaii's largest historical buildings. It sits on the lower slopes of Mauna Kea. Located in Hawaii County, Hilo is a part of the "Big Island." Hilo is Hawaii's second largest city.

Local events include the Annual Merrie Monarch Festival with its ancient and modern hula performances. The Merrie Monarch Festival is a week-long cultural event that starts on Easter Sunday and culminates with the hula competition events at Edith Kanaka'ole Tennis Stadium -- Miss Aloha Hula on Thursday, Hula Kahiko on Friday and Hula 'Auana on Saturday.

This city also has more than three dozen restaurants and the famous Hilo Farmers Market. Area beaches and parks include Coconut Island, Richardson's Ocean Park and more. Other attractions include the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo. This is the only zoo in America that is situated in a tropical rainforest.
