Gadsden is located in Etowah County, Alabama. Known as the City of Champions, this city is famous for the Lookout Mountain Parkway. This parkway features the Noccalula Falls Park, which is Alabama's number one natural tourist attraction.
Gadsden is the southernmost point of the annual event, the World's Longest Garage Sale, which stretches down U.S. Highway 127 from Gadsden to Covington. The sale is held annually on the first or second weekend of August. Visit http://www.tourdekalb.com/yardsale.htm for more information.
You will find baby items, antiques, and more at yard sales and local businesses along this route. You will also find good food at the local churches and at the volunteer fire departments, who raise funds for various charity organizations.
Handcrafts by talented artists, and canned foods of great flavor are also offered. This is the ultimate experience for the garage sale fanatic and the adventure is well-worth the drive from Houston. Our trip back home was long, but we got to bring back some newfound treasures!
If you are a fan of really good barbecue, you do not want to miss the Bama Rib Shack, located at 512 Main Street West; here, you can pick up your food at the counter. They have benches in front of the restaurant, too, where you can sit and wait for your food.
My husband, who has been asked not to return to several buffets, could not finish his rack of ribs. For instance, my stuffed potato was the size of a small football. We could have made two meals out of what we were given for a very reasonable price.
