Djemaa El Fna

This huge market consumes a square of the old city. Acrobats, storytellers, merchants, musicians, food sellers, snake charmers—find it all at Djemaa el Fna. The square changes temperament throughout the day. Peaceful early mornings bring orange juice vendors, noon prompts the first entertainers, late afternoons attract food stalls, which serve until late into the night. Be aware of your surroundings, though, and carry small change as markets always draw pickpockets and scam artists. If you find crowds uncomfortable, you may prefer people-watching while sitting on the terrace of a café overlooking the market.
