INTRODUCTION
This independent city was founded in the boom days of mining and was the county seat of the former Ormsby County. It was also named for explorer, Kit Carson.
HISTORY
Kit Carson rode into the Eagle Valley in 1840 along with John C. Fremont during thier quest to map the West. This place was passed through often during the Gold Rush in California in 1848-1849. In 1851 a trading post named Eagle Station was set up in this area. The city saw an influx of population when, in 1859, silver was discovered in the eastern hills of Carson City. It was called the Comstock Lode and was the largest silver find in world history. It became capital in 1861.
