Located in the southeast of the country, on the banks of the Dāmboviža River, Bucharest is the centre of the Romanian mass media, culture, and the arts.
In spite of several earthquakes and the allied bombing of the city during World War II, most of Bucharests historical heritage was thankfully preserved. The architecture consists of a blend of old, stony communist facades, elegant Parisian-style buildings and boulevards, and Romanian Orthodox churches and monasteries. Visitors may also be interested in sampling the renowned local beers and wines, as well as checking out the thriving music and cinema scene.
