Broadway New York City

The Broadway Theatre

The Broadway Theatre captures all the glamour of New York City in one location. Located in midtown Manhattan, the Broadway Theatre has a history as long as its list of notable productions.

It began as a venue for vaudeville shows and motion pictures in 1924 before hosting its first production, "The New Yorkers," in 1930. One of the most popular sites for musicals, the Broadway Theatre continues to entertain audiences gathering together from around the world.

Broadway in NYC

The Broadway theatre district still attracts thousands of tourists each year. It is located in the Theatre District of New York, and the term "Broadway" as used in the city refers in general to the 40 professional theaters in the area.

Current productions include: Billy Elliot, Mary Poppins, Wicked, 9 to 5, Avenue Q, Chicago, Hair, The Little Mermaid, Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Shrek, and much more.

Even though watching a show on Broadway is an event everyone must experience at least once during the course of their lifetime, prices are soaring. Whether you want premier seats sitting smack dab in front of the stage (orchestra) or a cheaper seat in the rear mezzanine, chances are individual tickets will range between $100-160 for a single performance.

If you are looking for a slightly cheaper (but not that much cheaper) show to watch, check out the listings of plays being performed off Broadway. There are plenty of musicals, dramas, and comedies like Stomp, Blue Man Group, Altar Boyz, and Tin Pan Alley Rag.
