Brest Fortress BelarusThe Emperor Nicholas I in 1830 approved the design of this impressive fortress. The fortress was suppose to be a masterpiece of military engineering as well as an outstanding work of art. By the beginning of the 20th century the fortress was the main Russian outpost on the western border.
