Located a few miles south of the Canadian border, Bellingham is the last major city for those venturing north, or the first for those coming south.
Bellingham features a mixture of small town shopping districts, like the historical Fairhaven, as well as more developed urban areas featuring movie theaters and mega shopping centers like Wal-mart and Best Buy.
Bellingham is home to Western Washington University, and as a result there are a variety of restaraunts as well as night life oppurtunities available. Eateries range from burger joints like Boomers and Wins Drive In to breweries like Boundary Bay and steakhouses such as Dirty Dan Harris's and Anthony's Home Port.
There are also a variety of outdoor activities in and around Bellingham. Visitors can venture up into the arboretum for an afternoon or walk along the beach and enjoy the beautiful view that Bellingham Bay offers.
