INTRODUCTION
Managua is Nicaragua’s business center and capital. It has the Las Huellas de Acahualinca museum, where 9,000 year-old footprints can be found. Tourists can also visit Lake Managua, which offers boats-for-hire, or see the volcanoes Mombotombo and Masaya.
HISTORY
Two earthquakes, in 1931 and 1972, destroyed the city, primarily affecting city's center. This might be the only city affected by earthquakes where rubble can still be found.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Theater and movie tickets are much cheaper than anywhere else in Latin America.
ATTRACTIONS
Tiscapa Lake, Palacio Nacional de Cultura, Nueva Catedral de Managua, and Managua's Historic Ruins are fun places to visit. If theater is your thing, go to the National Theater. Roberto Huembes Market is a very safe place where tourists can buy typical objects.
RESTAURANTS
Two of the best restaurants in town are El Paladar Nica, which serves local, home cooked style dishes and local fruit juices like Tiste, Pitahaya, or Cacao, as wells as delicious desserts, and Etnico Bar Cafe, which offers a tranquil environment where music and food meet. Haryl's Grill y Bar Restaurante Argentino (Argentinian grill) and Pelican Eyes Piedras y Olas, located in the hotel of the same, offer both gourmet and local food. Those are just a few options. For more options check with the locals.
