Hunedoara is an ancient medieval city in the Romanian region known as Transylvania. It is best known for its Gothic architecture, and its castles and surrounding forests make it clear to visitors why this area is the setting of countless vampire and other gothic horror stories. Bram Stoker was inspired here to write his classic gothic horror novel Dracula. Visitors can visit castles, forests, caves, and several sites where Stone Age and Neanderthal artifacts have been found.
