Heidelberg is one of Germany's best kept secrets. With one main tourist spot, the Heidelberg Castle, the picturesque cobblestone streets in the simple but historic town of Heidelberg are enjoyable without being overwhelming. Along the main road are restaurants with outdoor dining and small shops.
The University of Heidelberg draws students to the city, but the students don't add clutter and chaos, they add character to Heidelberg. Most of the students ride through town on bicycles, and those who don't mainly walk. There is little automobile traffic, which makes the air cleaner, the roads safer and the city of Heidelberg an all over relaxing and culturally enlightening destination to visit.
